The Division of Infectious Diseases includes physicians and scientists dedicated to reducing infectious disease morbidity in patients. The  ID  Division is led by Dr. Daniel Havlichek and is comprised of several talented faculty members including Apoorv Kalra, MD, Subhashis Mitra, M.D., MaryAnn Tran MD, and Gary Stein PharmD.  This core group of faculty supports an Infectious Disease Fellowship Program and many resident and student activities.   The  groups research  is currently focusing on basic and clinical sciences of gram positive and fungal pathogens.  

The  ID Division supports education in many ways. All faculty teach sophomore medical students in Problem-Based Learning (PBL)  and  Dr. Havlichek is the Chair for the Infectious Diseases and Immunology Domain (HM 511). Additionally, the faculty lecture in the other health colleges, as well as in Microbiology. All faculty teach housestaff on inpatient services and in outpatient settings.  Dr. Havlichek is the Infectious Diseases Fellowship Program Director. Please view past fellows' profiles here.

The Division has been successful in basic and clinical research. Drs. Kalra, Tran, and Stein form the core of the clinical trials team in Infectious Diseases. Dr. Stein is also an expert in pharmacokinetics. The Division has several active, funded research projects related to the use and pharmacodynamics of antimicrobial agents.   

Clinically, the Division sees approximately 100 consultations per month and is active in the ongoing outpatient management of persons with HIV and other infectious disease problems.
