Grant Abstract
Spiritual and Emotional Well-Being in
Breast Cancer Treatment
The study will explore the comparative impact of breast cancer and its treatment on spiritual well-being, depression, anxiety, social support, quality of life, neuropsychological functioning, and immunological resilience. The study will evaluate the relationships among our assessment domains using sophisticated statistical modeling tools, so as to better understand the role of spirituality in quality of life and health outcomes. The relationships will be documented between an index of brain function (i.e., fMRI) and spiritual versus emotional responsivity in a strategic subset of patients undergoing more toxic treatments (chemotherapy) for breast cancer.
