Grant Abstract

Frequency, Intensity, and Distress Associated with Chemotherapy Symptoms
Funded by Oncology Nursing Society Foundation, Trish Green Research Grant

The purpose of this research is to examine the pattern of frequency, intensity, and distress level of cancer/chemotherapy symptoms at three different data collection points. Specific aims address: Overtime, do symptoms change in frequency, intensity, and/or distress level? How do age, stage, gender, co-morbid conditions, site of cancer, and/or implementation of a nursing intervention, affect the pattern of change? This research is important to delineate the effect of demographic variables and treatment effects on patterns of symptoms over time. This research will use data from a randomized clinical trial containing a cognitive-behavioral nursing intervention or an automated telephone system intervention to examine placement of an intervention within the Symptom Experience Model (SEM).
