MSU Faculty Presented Smoking Research in Ireland

 

Three faculty members from the Department of Family Medicine presented research at the 2009 Annual Meeting of the Society for Research on Nicotine and Tobacco (SRNT) in Dublin, Ireland, April 27-30, 2009. Jodi Summers Holtrop, PhD, CHES, presented “Smoking and Depression: Assisting Primary Care Patients Using a Mood Management Approach to Quitting Smoking – A Pilot Study,” (co-author L Fitzpatrick); “The Overlap of Tobacco Use with Depression and Anxiety in Primary Care” (co-authors CF Ríos-Bedoya, C Pomerleau, D Nease, and D Weismantel); and “The Relationship of Depression and Stress to Smoking in Pregnant Women with Medicaid Insurance (co-authors L Roman, J Raffo, and C Meghea). William C. Wadland, MD, MS, presented “Associations of Medical Student Performance in Standardized Patients on Smoking Cessation with Cognitive Examinations” (co-author M Noel). Carlos Ríos-Bedoya, ScD, presented “Intra-Ethnic Differences in Past Year Smoking among Latinos in the United States.” Dr. Ríos-Bedoya is also co-author of three additional conference presentations. The mission of the SRNT is to stimulate the generation of new knowledge concerning nicotine in all its manifestations from molecular to societal.
