Two New Surgeons Join the Department of Surgery

 

Michael McLeod, M.D. and Sean Satgunam, M.D. have joined the staff of the Department of Surgery.

Dr. McLeod will serve as professor of surgery and program director for the surgical residency program. Dr. McLeod will also have a practice in the Surgery Clinic at the Sparrow Professional Building, where he will see endocrine and general surgery patients.

Dr. McLeod went to medical school at Cornell, trained in general surgery at the University of Michigan, and did a fellowship in endocrine surgery at Brown University. He has a long and distinguished track record as an endocrine surgeon and a surgical educator, including the publication of numerous papers on both subjects, and has most recently been program director for surgery at the Michigan State University – Kalamazoo Center for Medical Studies.

Dr. Satgunam will serve as assistant professor of surgery, and will practice in the Surgery Clinic at the Sparrow Professional Building, where he will develop a general surgery and minimally invasive practice as well as work with Dr. Yenumula in the bariatrics and metabolic surgery program.

Dr. Satgunam went to medical school at the University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom, trained in surgery at the Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon, Canada, and is currently completing a fellowship in minimally invasive and bariatric surgery at the University of Missouri. Satgunam has substantial expertise in minimally invasive, bariatric and endoscopic procedures.
