Dr. Wadland Receives CHM Distinguished Faculty Award

 

Dean Marsha Rappley, MD, announced the recipients of the 2008-2009 College of Human Medicine (CHM) Faculty and Academic Staff Awards at a reception in the MSU Life Sciences Building, May 13, 2009. William C. Wadland, MD, MS from the Department of Family Medicine received the CHM Distinguished Faculty Award as recognition for his outstanding academic contributions and achievements.

Dr. Wadland is Chairperson of the Department of Family Medicine and Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and Development for the College of Human Medicine. The CHM Distinguished Faculty Award was presented by Mary Noel, PhD, RD, who cited his national and international reputation for research regarding tobacco dependence and smoking cessation, and who said of him:

"Bill Wadland is nationally recognized as a thoughtful and visionary leader in family medicine due to his innovative research, encouragement of interdisciplinary collaboration, and passion for professional development of faculty colleagues. As Chair of the Department of Family Medicine, he has created an environment that encourages success of its faculty members at all stages of their careers.

"Valuing the wealth of intellectual resources throughout the University, he consistently encourages interdisciplinary collaboration. He has been instrumental in development of a University-wide Geriatrics and Gerontology Collaborative, as well as a Division of Preventive Medicine and Public Health within CHM."
